Get to know us
Here at Wonderful Counselor our goal is to represent our Lord and Savior with all we do. Wonderful Counselor is one of Jesus’s names taken from Isaiah 9:6 and our mission is His mission. We see Jesus had two primary mission fields in His ministry - He spent His time with the poor and powerless, and empowering others who would go and do likewise.
Disciples Making Disciples
Our goal is not only to reach the broken and the downtrodden, but to raise up leaders who will do the same where they live, work, shop, and play. “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.” Here in 2 Timothy 2:2, we see four generations of faithful people continuing on the great commission that Jesus has left His followers. We call this, Disciples Making Disciples, and our mission is to see God's people empowered by His Holy Spirit, sharing their faith they have in Christ with others as they go about their daily lives. Our goal is to see Disciple making groups in all one-hundred and five neighborhoods in Detroit. Maybe your church is one of them? We would love to connect and see the advancement of God's Kingdom reach new heights in our City.
"And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; but the one who has not believed will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:15-18
Street Outreach
We have a heart for all broken people but we have a focus on those who are hardest to reach and in the most danger. These communities such as the homeless, sex workers and drug communities are in desperate need of help, and often neglected by modern society and even the local church. We serve these communities by caring for their needs: physically, spiritually, and mentally. We are a donation based organization that gives out clothes, food, water, and over-the-counter medical help. We also partner with other organizations such as street medicine, shelters, and rehab facilities to ensure a continuity of care. While all of these services are temporary solutions to complicates issues, we here at Wonderful Counselor believe the only true solution is found in Jesus. He dealt with all sin, brokenness, and addiction by bearing it on his body on the cross so we can walk in freedom.
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” John 8:34,36
Our Focus
At Wonderful Counselor we prioritize the people groups that are the most difficult to reach, and empower others and churches to live missionally. We focus on these two extreme ends of the spectrum knowing that those we work with will be well-suited to fill in the gaps. Often, the traditional church model is to gather with the saints in hope that they will go out, reach the lost, and disciple others to do the same in their spare time. This means that, often, if a lost person doesn’t come to the church building, they won't be reached with the gospel. This is why we put our focus on the two extreme ends of the spectrum. This ensures the Power of the Gospel is making it to those who desperately need help, disciples are intentionally being trained to go into the harvest, and people are being practically equipped to be the ambassadors of reconciliation that we are called to be.
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
